A week on The Island
75 minutes gets you from Nova Scotia to the island of Prince Edward by way of a drive-on ferry. As you approach the south port of Wood Islands, the famous red earth of PEI makes itself known in the form of cliffs, beaches and coastal roads. It is a pastoral paradise, lush with all shades of green this time of year.
I spent the last week touring PEI, keeping a home base on Point Prim and maintaining a daily helping of lobster, clams, crab and mussels. The south shore guarantees warm water and mostly red sand while the north shore offers whiter sand and slightly cooler waves. Both are recommended.
Be sure to visit the Chowder House and book in a clam dig with Happy Clammers both on Point Prim. Singing Sands Beach is not to be missed, especially when followed with a lobster supper in New Glasgow.
New Art exhibit! | Pentper General Shop - Lunenburg, NS
I recently installed a tiny show at The Pentper General Shop in Lunenburg, NS consisting of pieces from my SEA & SPRUCE series. SEA & SPRUCE is a Nova Scotia series that I shot in September, 2014 - lots of sky, rock, ocean, foliage and more sky.
The pieces are for sale in the store, and also online.
If you're in Lunenburg, you'll want to make time for The Pentper General Shop. You'll find a carefully curated collection of handmade goods - wool blankets, linen scarves, single origin coffee beans, terracotta pottery and now... photographs by Rebeccah Newcombe.
Nick + Edith
These smiles graced Canada for just a number of weeks before heading back to New Zealand. Coffee was shared, chocolate was devoured, beaches were scoured and memories were made. Thanks for the visit, Nick and Edith!

The Baker Family
A quick Saturday photoshoot in Fall River made for some happy winter portraits.
Moving east...
With March comes a new adventure to Canada's east coast. I've packed up my wagon and am heading to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia for the next six months.
You'll notice a increase in sand, sky, rock and ocean in the next updates.
(If you're in the area and in need of a portrait, drop me a line!)
Photographs + leather + coffee
My newest show is both an art exhibit and a pop-up shop.
SEA + SPRUCE is a collection of images that I shot in Nova Scotia in September. They are printed on watercolour and framed with maple slats. These pieces are for sale here.
OUTSIDER is a small series of leather goods that I created in the last few months. The pieces are all handmade with vegetable tanned leather that ages gracefully with use and sunlight. There are purses that also fit iPads, and document holders that also double as laptop cases. These pieces are for sale here.
See both shows at Manic Coffee - 426 College Street in Toronto.
WOOD + PHOTO | Crafted Coffee 135 Ossington Ave.
The WOOD + PHOTO series continues! Have a look at it at Crafted Coffee (by Pilot Coffee Roasters) and sit down with a delicious coffee while you're at it.
Dane + Amanda
These two got married on the train tracks somewhere in the middle of Saskatchewan.
It was a good day.

Shuko + Krystian
Here are some of my favourites from a shoot last month.
We took the afternoon and explored Evergreen Brickworks deep in the heart of the Don Valley. Shuko is a pastry master and Krystian is an English teaching ninja. They are a great pair.

Before the summer's out...
Another year, another portrait. Quite possibly the largest group I've photographed, this family is a lot of fun to be with.

"Made in Canada" | New show at Manic Coffee
The name of my most recent art show is "Made In Canada".
It's a show that reflects Canada as I know it. You won't see hockey sticks, maple leaves or moose but you will see tree bark, linens and ocean. All images shot in Canada - from Vancouver to Newfoundland.
The show can be seen at Manic Coffee (426 College Street).
Here is a sneak peek:

A trip to Ayiti
In March I took a trip to Haiti.
It is a place that I find difficult to describe, but easy to love.

Last portrait of the year.
2013 ended with a portrait shoot near Collingwood, ON. We trekked over to the neighbour's farm and used the foggy day to its fullest. I've known these people for a long time and it made me very happy to capture them all at once.

Miles above Kearney Lake | WOOD + PHOTO III
This is another piece in my current WOOD + PHOTO III show at Dark Horse Espresso Bar in Toronto.
A typical day at Kearney Lake includes several swims, some paddling, the occasional evening fishing trip, lots of book-reading, consistent meal preparing, and deep forest exploring.
The photograph in this piece was shot from a bush plane. Here is a hand-drawn map of the familiar parts of the lake:
See it at Dark Horse Espresso Bar - 682 Queen Street East. Toronto, ON
Two new pieces of art: WOOD + PHOTO III
These are two art pieces in my current WOOD + PHOTO III show at Dark Horse Espresso Bar in Toronto. To give these pieces some context, I decided to draw.
Here is a little map of our day, which included a hunt for fish 'n chips, a well-made coffee and an oceanside stroll:

New art to see at Dark Horse Espresso Bar! (Queen East)
I have a new WOOD + PHOTO show on display at Dark Horse Espresso Bar. You'll find it at 682 Queen Street East.
Dark Horse a great place to sit with a coffee and look at the newly dressed walls.
The show is nearly all Canadian in subject matter, pairing reclaimed wood with photographs. The wood I used was salvaged from my childhood home, a farmhouse in rural Ontario.
Pieces start at $250.
Where the Bonnechere starts
It was a weekend well spent, at the mouth of the Bonnechere River.
In the middle of Ontario somewhere between Barry's Bay and Pembroke, a group of friends got together to share core-warming meals and wood panelled quarters.
A beautiful hand built cedar strip canoe hosted live book readings and chartered quiet lake tours, while a single shotgun and a box of clay pigeons provided loud cracks and complimentary cheers.
Many a fishing line was cast, but not a fish came in from the lake.
Here are a few photos:
