2021 is the year of the Bunkie. I’m writing this, so that makes it true. Right? Apparently not, considering I wrote my first post in 2019 and nothing happened.

At this stage, I have drawings for a trailer and I have pricing for steel. My dad claims we (HE) can build the trailer to suit the axles and wheels that I bought off Kijiji 2+ years ago. (Let’s be honest, he just wants them out of his barn.)

So, for the 0 people reading this: I’m building a bunkie. Please - hold me accountable!

Project Bunkie begins

This is a long time coming.

For nearly two years, I’ve been drawing and re-drawing a bunkie. Sometimes I call it a Bothy (Scottish term for cottage/cabin/outbuilding). Sometimes it’s a guest house. Sometimes it is my primary dwelling. Sometimes it’s 100% AirBnB.

What I’ve decided on is this: half my time I’ll spend at the Bunkie. The other half of my time will be elsewhere, and the Bunkie will be rented out / lent to friends in need of a quiet place.

It will be built on a trailer (I needed some sort of direction and design restrictions, else I find myself eternally re-designing and never building). Also, being on a trailer it becomes mobile and I avoid bothersome building permits.

So, let’s see what magic I can create inside a 11’ x 23’ box!
